GRANUAILE TRAIL No 11: DOONA CASTLE BALLYCROY CO MAYO

The lonely castle of Doona, Fahy Strand, Ballycroy which, for a time, was seized by Granuaile from the MacMahons in revenge for the killing of her lover, Hugh de Lacy.

In 1588 one of the Armada ships, La Rata Encondorado, foundered near the castle.
