The passing of JOHN HURT

The passing of JOHN HURT creates another vacuum in the pantheon of truly memorable actors.

I worked briefly with him and his bother Michael on an episode of WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE in 2007.

While researching for a biography on Howe Peter Browne, 2nd Marquess of Sligo (17701845) from Westport House (due for publication later this year) I was appointed historical consultant by the production company to try to prove John's connection with the Browne family, a tradition that for generations was maintained in the Hurt family.

Despite the 2nd Marquess being the father of 14 children, the connection with John's family, however, remained illusive, much to John's disappointment.

John Hurt was, however, in his own right, a gentleman to his fingertips.
